On the afternoon of May 19th, " The Road Ahead-Circular Family Pig Farming in China" co-hosted by Changrong Agricultural Sciences, Wageningen University and Cargill was successfully held in Conference Room 03 of Hall 9. Karel van Bommel, Agricultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in China, and Sha Yusheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Animal Husbandry Association, opened the speech, welcoming all participants and wishing the seminar a fruitful one.
Quan Taiyong, Commercial General Manager of Cargill Animal Nutrition and Healthy Feed South, shared how Cargill is tackling climate change, protecting arable land and water resources, and sustainably nourishing a growing population from the areas of reducing carbon emissions, achieving zero deforestation, sustainable water management, and improving farmers' livelihoods. He said that in the future, Cargill will continue to cooperate with Changrong Agricultural Science and Technology to practice and promote sustainable farm development models in Shanxi, Northeast China, Jiangsu, Anhui, Sichuan and other regions, empower family farmers, and promote rural revitalization.
Yao Jun, chairman of Shanxi Changrong Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd., said that Changrong hopes to take education as the starting point, carry out school-enterprise cooperation and school-school cooperation based on education and training, establish a people-centered top agricultural education platform, cultivate animal husbandry talents with an international vision, and build a professional pig farm management team by leveraging the global pig industry training system. He said that as a farm manager, it is necessary to seek inward, seek benefits from management, and stimulate the sense of life and value of employees.
Pim Mostert, a researcher at Wageningen University and Research Centre, shared the topic of "Family Farm Recycling and Sustainability". He analyzed the different forms and changes in agricultural development in Europe and China, and proposed that the recycling of food waste, by-products, insects, manure and so on provides great space for exploration of sustainable development in the future. He believes that sustainable development in China is becoming more and more necessary with changes such as lower imports, reduced population, less buildable land resources, lower fertilizer use, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
Bennie van der Fels, Senior Project Manager at Wageningen University and Research Center, and researcher Yan Jie announced the launch of the China Circular Family Farm Project. The project aims to resolve the conflict between humans and animals competing for food, reduce dependence on imported feed raw materials, and use local raw materials and by-products to reduce feeding costs and enhance market competitiveness. The project will take the "2023-2026" four-year cycle as the cycle, use Shanxi as a pilot to conduct circular and sustainable research, and establish a chain collaboration model based on circular seed source and nutrition, environment and pig farm design, health and biosecurity, data and information management, education and training, etc. Teachers and students from Jinzhou Medical University, Shihezi University, Yuncheng Agricultural Vocational and Technical College and Shandong Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Vocational College witnessed the launching ceremony of the project.
In addition, the conference also set up a discussion session, and specially invited Mr. Qin, a cooperative family farm of Changrong, to attend. Mr. Qin used humorous language to tell the mental journey from layman to pig farming. It mentioned the problems encountered by family farm pig farmers, such as policy support, capital turnover, technical strength, production and sales, and sustainable development and operation. Experts shared wonderful views on nutrition, seed sources, environmental health, education and training, and technical services.
The conference has been successfully concluded, but "The Road Ahead-Circular Family Pig Farming in China" is not over. In the future, Changrong will continue to focus on industry difficulties, integrate resources, deepen the value chain service system, and empower partners.
